Projects for Education

Did you know, that in Copán Ruinas. . . ?

4 Years

The average student in Copán receives only 4 years of education.

100 Schools

There are over 100 schools in the Copán region of Honduras.

3 : 1

Of ten children that make it to 6th grade, only three will go on to 7th grade, and only one of those will finish 9th.

40%

Only 40% of school-age children and adolescents in the region are currently studying.

Every child has the right to an education . . .

. . . but all of these statistics, while unfortunate, are true. Because of a lack of funding and resources, the schools in the Copán region are struggling to survive, and their students are suffering because of it. Whether it be a lack of school supplies, a building, or even a teacher, the education in rural Honduras is dwindling more and more with every year that passes, leading to a furthering of the distance between the wealthy and the impoverished.

With the damage of the pandemic affecting the amount of time the pupils spend in the classroom, students now entering third grade are unable to read. The municipality of Copán Ruinas is always working to promote the distribution of “NACHO” and “Aprende Conmigo” readers. These readers are crucial to the learning process, as they teach the children the basics when it comes to reading and writing. The teachers are needing our support to provide readers for the students in order to help them catch up to their peers; but, in order for us to make these changes happen, we need people like you to partner with us and help buy supplies for these children.

Because of the support our sponsors have so lovingly given to these children, the students in the villages of the Copán Region have begun receiving their school supplies for this year. . .

. . . and aren’t their smiles contagious?

We still need your help.

From the beginning, we at Bridges have made it a priority to involve our donors with the betterment of education in Honduras, and that has never been more crucial than it is right now. By donating on our website, you are directly responsible for giving children in rural Honduras the “push” to getting an education. There are four different supply packages that we are offering, ranging from $10 to $20, and all of them are crucial to assisting in the learning of these students.
